Bonnie Kay Klein, age 58, passed away October 30, 2009 at her home in Richfield, Minnesota after a long battle with cancer. She was born on December 19, 1950 in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, the sixth child of Henry and Pauline Knott. Bonnie grew up on the family farm in Lake Pleasant Township, attended St Joseph’s Catholic School, Lafayette High School, and Moorhead State University. She was a member of Lake Pleasant 4H Club and played trombone in both high school and college bands.
Bonnie worked as an administrator in a dental office was a childcare provider for 16 years, and more recently worked in the Computer Science department at the University of Minnesota. Bonnie’s love of life was exhibited in many ways; through her dedication to family and friends, love of children, dogs, flowers, and her great sense of humor.
Bonnie’s heart always went out to people in need. She taught her children to pray for people whenever they heard the sirens of ambulances and emergency vehicles. She was a woman of deep faith. She held strong beliefs about pro-life issues and even had a dream of opening a home for unwed mothers.
During her illness, her stalwart trust in God enabled her to endure countless treatments without complaint and her spirit strengthened her family’ bonds. She prayed that God would heal her so that she could witness to the power of God. She trusted that God would see her through all circumstances.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Pauline Knott. She is survived by her husband, John Joseph Klein, their children, John Joseph II, Christopher, (Christine), and Gretchen. She is also survived by sisters, Paulette (Terry) Busch, Sharon (Bob) Johnson, Marge Nichols, Nancy (Joe) Birrenkott, and sons Henry (Janet) Knott Jr., Gary (Elizabeth) Knott, Merle (Linda) Knott, E. Duane (Faith) Knott, Glen Knott and Phil Knott. Our lives will be forever enriched by her love, laughter, and spirit.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the People of Praise Auditorium in Eagan beginning at 5:15 PM. A prayer service will be held from 5:45 PM until 6:30 PM, visitation will continue from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM. Robert Eugene Okerlund, native son of Northfield, MN, stepped off the field of life on August 5th at the age of 81 to accept yet another award; this one Divine. His heroic spirit will forever guide his children, grandchildren and all in life whom he served and inspired.
Born in Duluth, MN. he spent his youth in Northfield and graduated from Carlton College after serving overseas in World War II. He raised his family in Edina, MN. with his wife Elizabeth and retired in San Diego, Ca. to be with his grandchildren.
His accomplishments include: Gifted Athlete, Conquering Polio, Championship Coach, Financial Executive, Charity Board Member, Founder/Director of All Pro Football School, and Community Advocate. He was also a dedicated father, mentor, protector, and our Hero.
Among the bereaved are his sister June Dondlinger, his children Stephen, Jeffrey, Elizabeth and Robert, his grandchildren Elizabeth, Katherine, and Christopher.
After 57 years of marriage, his wife Elizabeth, who preceded him into Heaven by 9 days, got only a short vacation. An irony befitting Dad's sense of humor but MOST IMPORTANTLY exemplifying his consistency and devotion. His character ALWAYS shined through with a gentle swagger both endearing and enduring to all.
Funeral For Elizabeth and Robert will be held together 2PM Wednesday August 12th at LAKEWOOD CEMETERY CHAPEL, 3600 Hennepin Ave. S, with visitation ½ hour prior to service.

1948-2009 |
Elizabeth Elstad Okerlund of Duluth, Minneapolis, and Madison Lake, Mn as well as San Diego, Ca. “valiantly accepted her reservation in Heaven” on July 27, at the age of 76. She is dearly loved and cherished by her husband, children, grandchildren, and the many friends who she declared as family and whose lives she touched with her generosity and unfailing love.
Born Elizabeth Anne in Saint Paul, Minnesota on August 30, 1932. She joins her mother, Elizabeth D. Elstad and her father, Rudolph T. Elstad, former President of Oliver Mining Company. Her reunion with her parents, gives us peace.
She spent her life in patient and joyous service of others, working with not only special needs children at the Fraser School of Minneapolis and later in the Edina School System, also hosting numerous international exchange students and their families. “What’s one more?” was her attitude. Her inspired work taught her family so much about life. It’s an example to which we can all aspire.
Our beloved "Mrs. O" leaves friends around the world. Her wise counsel remains with her husband Robert E. Okerlund, her children Stephen, Jeffrey, Elizabeth, and Robert; her grandchildren Elizabeth, Katherine and Christopher as well as each and every one of those she touched.
